Everything surrounding the ratification of the contract with COSCO in Parliament is indicative of the government’s lack of seriousness and responsibility. It is beyond all political rationality for various ministers and government officials to change the terms of an agreement, which was even celebrated upon signing, on the even of the Prime Minister’s trip to Beijing.

Neither do the Shipping Minister’s cries about how a “battle was fought on harsh terms which resulted in a compromise with painful solutions and measures that are not compatible with our declarations” constitute responsible politics. A minister and government that do not believe in what they sign cannot obviously implement their commitments. That is why they will try schemes, like the one they tried in Parliament, to undermine them.

That, however, is the government’s general problem. It has made so many populist declarations and is so obsessive that it cannot implement a policy which the country so desperately needs. The aversion to anything private and hostility towards domestic and foreign entrepreneurship is deeply rooted in SYRIZA’s DNA.

The only way for the economy and the country as a whole to recover is via investments. From Greeks, Chinese, Europeans and anyone else who can and believes that Greece and the Greek people have productive capabilities, which they may take advantage of, both for their interest and ours.

Growth and the new jobs which the country so desperately needs will not come with ideological and outdated statist beliefs. So long as they do not change these beliefs we will continue to be on the brink, in a state of a stable bankruptcy, awaiting help from above to carry on. Only this help, as the new bailout demonstrates, does not come without charge and without painful terms…
