Queen Rania Al-Abdullah of Jordan has announced a visit on the island of Lesvos next week, in an effort to raise international awareness on the refugee crisis. Her visit comes after the highly-publicized visit of Pope Francis.

The Jordanian queen is internationally known for her efforts to promote women’s rights and is currently running a campaign to support refugees. About 5 million Syrians have been displaced in the past five years, with Jordan – a country with a population of 9.5 million – having taken in the most.

Although the official estimate indicates that there are 600,000 Syrian refugees it is believed that many more have sought refuge in Jordan.
