The Coast Guard carried out a search and rescue operation on Wednesday evening, in the Psalidi area off the coast of Kos. The Coast Guard managed to save 14 refugees and recovered the body of a young child.

During the late night operation, the Coast Guard located the refugees on-board an inflatable boat. When the Greek vessel approached to collect them, the Coast Guard officers were informed of four missing people. Eventually the four missing people were found, in good health, on the shores of Kos.

Meanwhile the situation on the islands is becoming increasingly dramatic, as the refugees arriving cannot make their way to mainland Greece due to the PNO strike. Although there was some discussion to exempt the ships that have been chartered with transporting them to Piraeus, the seamen federation insisted upon its strike action. A PNO meeting has been called for noon on Thursday to reevaluate the situation.
