After about two years, the Municipal Police is set to return to the streets of Athens, with their official reinstatement scheduled for the 26th of October. Although municipal police officers will gradually begin patrolling once again, they will only be handing out informative pamphlets and will not begin issuing traffic violation tickets until their official reinstatement.

On Friday morning the Deputy Mayor Antonis Kafetzopoulos along with a group of municipal police officers began handing out pamphlets on Syntagma Square. Mayor Giorgos Kaminis called the people of Athens to support the effort, so that the city may become more humane, functional and friendlier.

The Municipal Police can be contacted via telephone (1595) and email (tep@cityofathens.gr) on a 24-hour basis.
