The leader of the Christian Democratic Party and MP with the Independent Greeks Nikos Nikolopoulos has announced via Twitter his decision to pursue an “independent course”.

In his tweet Mr. Nikolopoulos added that a press conference will be held at noon on Tuesday, where the political committee will present the decisions held at the party’s national conference regarding its plans.

Mr. Nikolopoulos had expressed his disappointment when the Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras decided against including him in the new government. In a letter to Independent Greek leader Panos Kammenos he specifically argued that he was “insulted” on a personal level.

It remains to be seen how this will affect the coalition government, which until Mr. Nikolopoulos’ announcement counted 155 MPs.
