The German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy expressed the mutual belief that reforms and solidarity towards Greece are necessary, in a joint press conference in Berlin.

Mrs. Merkel told journalists that she was in agreement with her Spanish counterpart that reforms and solidarity were necessary, with Mr. Rajoy stressing the need for Greece to implement reforms immediately. The goal, according to the Spanish PM is the creation of financial growth and jobs.

Furthermore, he explained that this will then allow Greece to operate on its own and that if the agreements are upheld, the country will have a future. Mr. Rajoy further commented that provided that agreements are upheld and rationality prevails, the situation in Greece will improve in a “reasonable” time.
