The friendly defeat (64-59) by Belgium in Antwerp was a good opportunity of Greek national team coach Fotis Katsikaris to make plans for the upcoming FIBA Eurobasket competition that will be hosted in France, Croatia, Germany and Latvia.
In its first real test since the training for the Eurobasket began, Greece played against Belgium without point guard Vasilis Spanoulis and center Yannis Bourousis. NBA star player Yannis Antetokounmpo was Greece’s top scorer with 16 points.
Although Greece started off strong in the game, the Belgian side managed to balance the score by half-time (30-30). The score was close throughout the game, with Belgium ultimately prevailing and defeating Greece in the final quarter.
The Greek team has returned to Athens, where it will continue training until it departs for Istanbul on Thursday, where it will face Bosnia on Friday (17:30) and Turkey on Saturday (19:00) for two more friendlies.
