At a time when Greece is literally in flames and agonizes over the payment of some installments from our European creditors and the IMF, and unbeknownst to the opposition parties, the decision of the President of Parliament to create a committee for examining to what extent part of our debt is burdensome and onerous, is verging on the insane.

It is also remarkable that the President of the Republic rushed to address this committee, which as Mr. Venizelos pointed out was formed in violation of parliamentary traditions and practices.

The how and why the public was created and more importantly swelled, is a discussion that necessitates self-awareness and not the shifting of responsibilities, as has been the case in recent years. Because, above all, no burdensome speculator forced us to run up a debt. It was our choice and that of the government we selected, because it suited them and it suited us.

This was pointed out by the Minister of Finances, who is also in charge of managing the debt, when he noted that according to Eurostat and the European Commission, none of this was illegal. Mr. Varoufakis later added there is a tendency in Greece, whenever democracy and justice fail, to replace them by inquiries in Parliament. He has only been a Member of Parliament for a few months, but would not like that to happen now.

There various budding inquisitors of the burdensome debt, which the President of Parliament amassed, will unequivocally not offer anything other than their ideologies. This has been demonstrated by their actions in the third world, of which we are not yet considered a part. For example in Ecuador, all of the oil reserves were handed out to China, in order to cover the country’s financing needs.

At present Greece has no room for shadowboxing and fighting for small political gains. There is only one safe way out: to quickly come to an agreement with our partners in order to end the uncertainty and the credit crunch. That is what is most important, not committees for domestic consumption…
