The president of New Democracy Antonis Samaras has decided to call an informal Political Council, in an effort to overcome the intraparty debate and conflicts, which escalated after January’s electoral defeat.

The informal Political Council will essentially draw up New Democracy’s main opposition strategy and will be comprised of the party’s central MPs, such as the former President of Parliament Evangelos Meimarakis, Parliament VP Nikitas Kaklamanis, the secretary of the party’s Parliamentary Group Yannis Plakiotakis, parliamentary spokesmen Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Adonis Georgiadis and Yannis Vroutsis, the secretary of the party’s political committee Andreas Papamimikos, the secretary of strategic planning Miltiadis Varvitsiotis, the president of ONNED’s executive office Sakis Ioannidis, press spokesman Kostas Karagounis, a consultant of Mr. Samaras (most like Chrysanthos Lazaridis) and four members of the party’s parliamentary group.

The vote for the four members of the parliamentary group will be secret and is scheduled to take place next week at the political council.
