The Minister of Justice, Transparency and Human Rights Nikos Paraskevopoulos announced that he plans on submitting a bill in order to address a number of critical issues related to the criminal and penitentiary system.

According to Mr. Paraskevopoulos, the bill will address the abolition of “Type C” maximum security prisons and the banning of imprisoning 15-to-18-year-olds (except when faced with life imprisonment).

The bill will also include favorable provisions for the earlier release of patients, the elderly and the disabled. Measures will also be included to make it easier for drug addicts to choose a rehabilitation program rather than detainment in prison.
