The president of the Eurogroup Working Group Thomas Wieser expressed his optimism of Greece remaining in the Eurozone and coming to an agreement with its partners by August, in an interview he gave to Austrian channel ORF.

According to Mr. Wieser, Greece is able to cover its financial needs on its own for the next few months and estimated that “there are budgetary reserves, there are reserves within social insurance schemes of state-held companies”.

He further explained that “from mid-August Greece factually has no commitments for interest payments […] for the rest of the decade and so one just has to get past the months of April, May, June, August and then the situation should be stabilized sustainably”.

Mr. Wieser appeared confident that after starting negotiations, the negotiations would come to a successful conclusion “in the coming weeks and also coming months”.
