A 26-year-old man from Romania has been arrested for the murder of author Menis Koumantareas in his apartment in Kipseli on the 5th of December.

According to the police statement, the 26-year-old is one of two men who were involved in the crime. The other suspect, a 30-year-old Romanian, has not yet been arrested, however the police argue that it is a matter of time.

The 26-year-old man claims that he got into an argument with Koumantareas and pushed him, causing him a fatal injury, however there appear to be many contradictions in his version of events. The medical examiner reported that the victim had been punched in the stomach and face before being strangled, while the suspect claims to have only pushed hm,

The victim and suspect are said to have know each other for the past 10 years, with Koumantareas believed to have occasionally assisted them financially. The two suspects may have heard about Koumantareas selling real estate property in recent times and as such may have believed that he would have kept the money from the sale at this home. The police investigation however has not confirm this.

The 26-year-old has been charged with murder and has been prosecuted, while the search for the arrest of the second suspect is currently under way.
