The Prime Minister Antonis Samaras told journalist that he is optimistic that his New Democracy party will win the upcoming elections at the end of January. Mr. Samaras is currently on tour in the north of Greece.

On Monday the PM visited a military outpost in Kastanies of Evros, near the border with Turkey, where he was received by Major General Antonis Vitetzakis and Brigadier General Yannis Makris.

Mr. Samaras also visited the fence which has been constructed along the Evros river in order to prevent illegal immigration. Mr. Samaras praised the fence, claiming to have benefited the area and that he would not allow it to be torn down.

The PM also promised that the riverbed would be cleared up, as the area had recently been affected by floods.
