The former Prime Minister and leader of PASOK Giorgos Papandreou is expected to submit the name and statute of his new party in the Supreme Court today.
Mr. Papandreou has decided to carry out this move despite the pleas of historic and newer PASOK officers, who argue that this will cause a schism amongst the party and the country.
According to a statement released by Mr. Papandreou, the founding declaration of the new party, along with the announcement of its name, symbols and goals, will take place at a special event on Saturday.
Mr. Papandreou has not revealed the name, although the word “movement” features heavily in his statement. Mr. Papandreou also stressed that his party will reflect the values of democracy, socialism and sustainable growth.
