The Greek national football time is currently facing a series, as illustrated by the recent disheartening appearances in the Euro 2016 qualifiers and the dismissal of head coach Claudio Ranieri. Greece has not won in the past six games, since the victory against Ivory Coast in the Brazilian World Cup.

On Tuesday, U21’s coach Konstantinos Tsanas was at the helm of the men’s team in the friendly against Serbia in Crete. AS such Mr. Tsanas did not have the opportunity to really change the team’s overall play and focused on the defensive lines. In the first half Greece and Serbia had only one opportunity each to open the score with Yannis Maniatis and Zoran Tošić respectively.

The pace of the game picked up in the second half, with Christodoulopoulos (50’) causing some concern to the Serbian defense. Ultimately though Petrović’s header (60’) put Serbia in the lead. Greece tried to respond immediately, however the Serbian goalkeeper Vladimir Stojković was on top form. Serbia took reign of the game and had more opportunities to increase the score, while Greece missed another opportunity to equalize the game with Mantalos (86’). Gudelj doubled Serbia’s goals with a wonder 25-meter strike.
