A recent bout of severe weather conditions has caused floods in 25 municipalities across Greece, damaging an estimated 580 houses and 168 vehicles, according a Fire Department report. The dramatic floods saw basements flood and cars being swept away as streets quickly turned into rivers.

The Deputy Minister of Labor Vasilis Kegeroglou announced that emergency financial assistance will be provided to those affected by the floods. Each household will receive 586.94 euros for immediate relief, while a further 1,174 to 5,859 euros will be available for the restoration of damages.

On Tuesday, the national meteorological service announced that weather is expected in improve on Wednesday evening, with some sporadic rainfall affecting western and southern parts of the country.
