The shooting down of the Malaysian aircraft near the Ukrainian-Russian border and the tragic death of hundreds of our fellow people who were traveling for work or their vacations boggles the mind. Unfortunately, the worried and awkward statements that came from a series of leaders and the attempt to point the blame from both sides implicated in the conflict, suggest that those responsible for the cold blooded murder of the innocent passengers and flight crew will not be revealed.
The international community however can no longer remain a spectator with such a tragedy and others like it taking place around us. The geopolitical games, the power struggle of the hegemonies in the international scene are a constant deterant in any attempt to coordinate and settle conflicts and national claims. The crisis that has been going on in Ukraine for the past few months may have dominated the international media and triggered a fierce confrontation between the West and Russia, but it was later marginalized due to the conflicts of other interests.
As a result of this indifference the passengers and crew members of the Malaysian flight paid an unbearable cost. There are too many hot zones and conflicts going on today, from Ukraine to Palestine, from the Middle East to Africa, for the world leaders to simply watch on and be unable to come to a bear minimum agreement.
