The main opposition party SYRIZA has organized a demonstration outside the embassy of Israel in Athens at 6:30pm on Thursday in protest of the ongoing bombardment in the Gaza strip. In its announcement, SYRIZA calls for an end of the blockade against the Gaza strip and stresses that a solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict must be in line with UN decisions.
SYRIZA MEP Sofia Sakorafa stated in the European Parliament that “2.5 million Palestinians are living in refuge camps, in appalling conditions, unable to return to their country” and likened their living conditions to “an Apartheid”. Mrs. Sakorafa called for a condemnation of Israel’s actions and argued that the country must respect international treaties.
