The tax officer employee union has urged the newly-appointed General Secretary of Public Revenue Katerina Savvaidou of reassigning the Economic and Financial Crime Unit (SDOE) to carrying out preaudits.
In its statement the union argues that ever since SDOE was stripped of the authority to carry out such inspections nine months ago, there has been a profound increase of tax evasion and tax theft.
The union also argued that Ministry of Finances and the new General Secretary could restore SDOE’s operations by unifying it with the General Secretariat of Public Revenue and restoring its preaudit powers.
Finally, the unionists expressed their disappointment at the political leadership repeating its predecessor’s mistakes by attempting to tackle tax evasion opportunistically and without a plan or experienced personnel, in the middle of the summer season.
