According to the nationwide federation of social policy employees (POPOKP), 76.5% of main pensions in Greece are under 1,000 euros, with 50% of main pensions being under 500 euros, as are 99% of supplementary pensions. The federation’s data shows that the average main pension in Greece is about 704 euros (for 2,893,370 pensioners), while the average supplementary pensions is 176 euros (for 1,576,501 pensioners).
The data also revealed that 52 pensioners received between 8 and 10 different pensions, while the highest state pension was found to be 5,460.73 euros. There are 174 pensioners who receive pensions over 4,000 euros, three of whom receive ten pensions. The data shows that there are 30 pensioners who receive more than 5,000 euros each months, 3 who receive over 6,000 euros and just one with accumulated pensions worth over 7,000 euros per month.
Furthermore, POPOKP’s data shows that IKA, the country’s largest insurance provider, has seen its revenue shrink by 8.2% and is owed about 8 billion euros in contributions, half of which are considered “uncollectible”. The insurance fund for the self-employed (OAEE) has a total of 750,000 policy holders, with 370,00 of them owing about 5.9 billion euros worth of contributions.
State subsidies towards the insurance funds hard gradually been slashes since 2012, when they amounted to 13.443 billion euros; in 2013 subsidies dropped to 11.540 billion euros, while in 2014 further cuts brought the subsidies to a total of 9.848 bill euros. In the past two years, subsidies have been reduced by 3.595 billion euros.
