The Minister of Finances Giannis Stournaras was invited on Mega Channel’s “Anatropi” talk show on Friday night, where he revealed that lay offs of civil servants was a possibility.
Mr. Stournaras said that negotiations were under way, however he clarified that the reported 25,000 civil servants will not be laid off, but inducted in the mobility program (i.e. suspension).
The minister also stated that the government “does not intend to reduce the minimum wage” and that they “will not need to take any further measures”. Mr. Stournaras also revealed that “for the first time in 2013 we will have a negative inflation”.
Mr. Stournaras appeared to be optimistic about the Greek economy, noting that the leading indexes demonstrate that the recession is turning around and that the budget estimation that of 4.5% GDP recession will not be revised for the worse.
