The nationwide school exams are scheduled to begin on Monday 16 May, where students will be tested in four subjects, under the new system.

About 5% of candidates, who are students from previous years retaking the nationwide exams, will be examined with the older system. In total there will be 1,000 exam centers (150 will be in vocational high schools) and 40 marking centers.

Following the conclusion of the exams, the Ministry of Education will announce university entry requirements in August.

In a press conference the Minister of Education Nikos Filis called for ‘calm’, in relation reports of teacher unions considering the unlikely scenario of strike actions during the exam period.
