The coalition government is considering the possibility of increasing ticket prices for urban transportation in Athens, following the VAT increase.

According to a Mega Channel report, the ticket hike may come into effect in 2016, with prices for a full ticket increasing to 1.30 euros (from 1.20 at present), while the cost of reduced tickets going to 0.65 euros (from 0.60). Other considerations include introducing different prices according to zone.

The report also notes that the Ministry of Transport is considering the possibility of keeping prices stable and aims to promote the use of monthly passes.
