The Coast Guard launched a rescue operation on Friday morning, after locating two vessels carrying tens of refugees, off the coast of Mytilene.

As soon as the first inflatable boat with about 40 refugees was located, near the island’s airport, a Coast Guard vessel was dispatched. Upon approach, the Greek authorities noticed that the Turkish human trafficker was attempting to throw the passengers overboard, however he was arrested before he could escape.

Another boat, also carrying about 40 refugees, was also located in the Agrilia area, as it was approaching the island’s shore. Coast Guard official rushed to area and rescued the refugees.
