The ministerial appointment of Independent Greeks MP Dimitris Kammenos has caused major controversy due to a number of racist and homophobic tweets from an account he operated.

Through the @portaporta account on Twitter , Mr. Kammenos, who was appointed Deputy Minister of Infrastructure, Transport and Networks on Wednesday morning, made anti-Semitic comments in relation to the 9/11 terror attacks in the USA and often used disparaging, homophobic language.

Mr. Kammenos had also taken shots at Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras in the past, accusing him of being “worse than Giorgos Papandreou” and a “criminal”.

As of Wednesday morning Mr. Kammenos’ controversial twitter account is unavailable.
