The municipal authorities of Chania in Crete have officially launched a communal bicycle program on Tuesday, as part of the celebrations for the European Car Free Day.

At present there are 70 communal bicycles available from four squares in the city (Talo, Katechaki, Defkalionos and Markopoulou).

During the presentation of the communal bicycle program, local mayor Tasos Vamvoukas commented that the goal is to make the city more people-friendly and underlined the importance of using bicycle and public transportation.

Mr. Vamvoukas also announced plans to develop bicycle lanes and other initiatives to address traffic problems.
