On Monday evening, SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras was sworn in as Prime Minister of Greece, for a second time, before the President of the Republic Prokopis Pavlopoulos.

Following the oath-taking ceremony, Mr. Tsipras headed to Maximos Mansion, where he took over from caretaker Prime Minister Vasiliki Thanou. The new Prime Minister praised Mrs. Thanou for handling critical issues during her tenure, particularly the refugee crisis and underlined the importance of her appointment.

Prior to being sworn in, Mr. Tsipras informed the president that he has come to an agreement with the President of the Independent Greeks Panos Kammenos and as such requested a mandate to form a government.

To Vima has been told that Mr. Tsipras has concluded on his cabinet and the new government is expected to be sworn in on Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning, prior to his departure for Brussels, for the summit on the refugee and migration crisis.
