The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Athens has responded to the Hungarian government’s accusations that Greek authorities have not done everything necessary to prevent an influx of refugees and migrants entering Europe, which in turn is causing problems to other member states.

The spokesperson for the Foreign Affairs Ministry Konstantinos Koutras commented that the behavior of Hungarian officials towards the refugees – even babies – who are experiencing the drama and misery of war, is “unacceptable”.

Mr. Koutras stressed that “the use of violence, patrols with machine guns and pushing innocent war victims into Balkan minefields do not constitute behavior pertaining to member-states of the European Union”.

Furthermore, the spokesman underlined that no one country can respond to the “unprecedented refugee crisis” and claimed that Greek authorities are doing everything humanly possible.

In concluding, Mr. Koutras stated that the crisis requires “humanity, cooperation, solidarity and coordination with the other European partners” rather “appalling cynicism, provocative statements, use of violence and returning Cold War walls”.
