The Alternate Minister of Finances Dimitris Mardas has disputed a report in German tabloid Bild, which alleges that he transferred a sum of 80,000 euros abroad in March, after being appointed.

Mr. Mardas told Mega Channel that the report was libelous and that he never transferred such a sum abroad and explained that he submitted copies of his tax returns and asset declarations. He also revealed that he has requested that his bank issue a statement to formally confirm that neither he nor his wife transferred such a sum abroad.

According to the Alternate Finance Minister, he had previously transferred a far smaller sum to a bank abroad for his daughter, who is currently studying in Brussels.

The German tabloid appears to have based its controversial report on an article published in the Thessaloniki newspaper, which alleged that Mr. Mardas sent 80,000 euros to a bank in Luxembourg.
