The government has responded to comments of foreign officials in the international media regarding the possibility of an agreement with the creditors and warned that it will not back down from its “red lines”.
In its statement, which was issued on Wednesday afternoon, the government underlines that it has managed to fulfill its obligations on its own resources since August 2014, when Greece last received financial aid.
The recent pressure on Greece, according to the statement, is to force the government to accept recessionary measures, such as new wage and pension cuts, collective dismissals and more. The government also dismissed reports that its proposals are inadequate or not detailed.
Furthermore, the Greek government notes that “certain ultra-conservative circles in Greece and abroad are refusing to accept reality. The memorandum is dad and the austerity policies will not return to Greece. These policies were implemented, failed and lead the country to the tragic situation experienced by the majority of the Greek people”.
