The deadly terrorist attack that took place in Paris on Wednesday was universally condemned by Greek political leaders. Prime Minister Antonis Samaras reported expressed his “deep sorrow and disgust” for the deadly terrorist attack and stressed that the Greek people will stand in solidarity with the families of the innocent victims and join the friendly French people in their grief.

The government Vice President and Foreign Affairs Minister Evangelos Venizelos also condemned the attack that took place in Paris and expressed his anger, while denouncing the provocative and barbaric attack. He also expressed his deep condolences to the famileis of the victims of the attack, the French people and authorities.

The press office of main opposition party SYRIZA issued a statement according to which the attack “fills every thinking person and democratic citizens and sorrow and anger” and warns that “bigotry and blind violence are against democracy and unity, against the principles of the Enlightenment, against Europe itself and its people, irrespective of religion and origin”. SYRIZA concluded by expressing its solidarity and offering support to families of the victims and French people.

Independent Greeks president Panos Kammenos expressed his solidarity to the French people and his deep sorry for the “murder of journalists and artists by fundamentalist Muslims in the center of Paris”. Mr. Kammenos offered his support for the freedom of speech and journalism, while warning that “all free people must unite against such phenomena”.

Finally, the president of the Socialist International and leader of the Movement of Socialists Democrats Giorgos Papandreou condemned the attack but noted that was not enough and stressed that “we must mobilize and act against ideas that cultivate terrorism”. His party’s press officer Giorgos Petalotis argued that the attack was “an attack against Democracy itself” and stressed the need “to defend freedom of expression and rally against totalitarian ideas that incite terrorism”.
