The Presidential candidate Stavros Dimas announced that “with respect to the democratic institutions, I will not accept to be elected President of the Hellenic Republic with votes by Golden Dawn”.

Mr. Dimas made the announcement on Wednesday in response to rumors that the neo-Nazi party is considering supporting the coalition government’s candidate.

Earlier on Wednesday a number of top New Democracy officers – Parliament VP Markogiannakis, Administrative Reform Minister Mitsotakis and MP Dora Bakoyanni – rejected potential support from Golden Dawn.

The government Vice President Evangelos Venizelos commented that “the statement by Stavros Dimas for Golden Dawn, simple and self-explanatory, honors and highlights the ethos of Democracy“.
