The Council of State has decided to temporarily suspend student transfers to the School of Architecture of the National Technical University of Athens and the Department of Architectural Engineering at the University of Thessaloniki.
According to the ruling, the suspension was decided in order to avert “irreparable damage” to the operation of the two university institutions due to the huge number of transfer applications.
Earlier in the year the coalition government lifted family and financial criteria so that a greater number of students could transfer to institutions nearer to home, in order to avoid unnecessary expenses. The major surge of applications though could result in centralized institutions being swamped and unable to respond.
In their appeal to State Council, the universities claim that the Education Ministry’s decisions and relevant legislation conflict with a series of Constitutional provisions and note that for that reason the relevant legal framework must be canceled and rewritten.
