An eleven-year-old girl from Romania has given birth to a baby girl in Iraklio in Crete on Sunday evening, after being taken to the University Hospital with abdominal pains.

The girl had previously been taken to a local health center, where doctors were shocked to find that she was ready to give birth and ordered that she be taken to the hospital.

The director of the University Hospital Nikos Charitakis told Radio Crete that the young girl gave birth to healthy baby girl and that due to her age, a caesarian section was conducted. Both the young mother and child are fine in their health.

The social services in Crete have launched an investigation into the case. Preliminary reports suggest that the girl had been unaware of her pregnancy until her 7th month, when she visited a doctor after she noticed her belly growing.
