The European Courts have rejected the Greek government’s request for a suspension of an earlier court decision regarding the 424-million-euro package that was distributed to thousands of farmers in Greece.

This means that thousands of farmers will be called upon to return the funds they received from the Greek government as compensation for damages that they incurred.

According to the European Courts, the 424 million euros were not provided as compensation for damages, but rather they were state subsidies, which in turn distorted competition in Greece. The courts also rejected the Greek request to exempt a sum of 180 million euros from the recall.
