The Assistant Professor of Astrophysics at the University of Crete Mrs. Vaso Pavlidou has received the Greek L’Oréal-UNESCO Awards for Women in Science.
The annual awards, which is a partnership between UNESCO and French cosmetics company L’Oréal, aims to improve the position of women in science by recognizing outstanding scientific achievements and progress. The Greek awards were first organized in 2006.
Mrs. Pavlidou has published over 75 papers in scientific journals and was one of the driving forces behind the international “RoboPol” collaboration, which has constructed, placed and operates a unique polarimeter at the Skinakas Observatory.
In accepting her award, Mrs. Pavlidou urged young children with a passion for science to visit the University, where they may receive guidance and explore the limits of human knowledge.
