Almost six out of ten people in Greece oppose the possibility of early elections by March on occasion of the Presidential election, according to the latest survey conducted by Kapa Research for To Vima.

Specifically, 29.2% believe that early election are a “definitely positive” development, 7.4% “probably positive”, while 6.8% believe such elections to be a “probably negative” development and 51.5% consider it to be a “definitely negative” development (5.1% had no answer).

The survey shows that 72.2% of respondents are confident that the Greek government will come to a deal with the troika, while 22.3% believe there will be no deal and 5.5% are uncertain. Regarding the delays in the latest review, 56.9% believe that the troika’s excessive demands are to blame, compared to 30.8% who argue that the coalition government is not implementing the program correctly.

Furthermore, the survey also shows that 55.9% are in favor of the current parliament electing a new President, as opposed to 37.2% who want a new President from a new Parliament. The survey asked the respondents what party they would vote in there were elections next Sunday:

  • The River 6.6%
  • Golden Dawn 6.1%
  • KKE 5.9%
  • ANEL 3.2%
  • Other party 4.6%
  • Blank/invalid3.2%
  • Undecided 15.6%

When asked who is more suitable for the role of Prime Minister, 44% favored New Democracy’s Antonis Samaras, 35.6% favored SYRIZA’s Alexis Tsipras while 17.8% responded “neither of the two”.
