The Ministry of Environment is planning to coordinate the flood prevention efforts across the country in an effort to improve relevant bodies and services and claim more funding from the EU. The Special Secretariat for Water has so far composed a report and mapped the risk of flooding in all areas in Greece.

Over the next few days the Alternate Minister of Environment Nikos Tagaras will sign relevant flood prevention agreements, which provide 742,439.07 euros for Peloponnesus and Crete, 561,661.05 for Eastern Macedonia and Thrace and 1,045,985.85 euros for Central and Western Macedonia. Similar agreements will be signed for other areas in Greece over the next two months.

According to the Ministry, the flood prevention plans will aim to prevent flood damage, reduce the chance of a flood occurring and being prepared to take necessary initiatives in case of flood.
