Carlsberg announces acquisition of Olympic Brewery

The Danish brewery Carlsberg announced on Tuesday its plane to merge with Olympic Brewery in Greece, which will significantly strengthen the company’s presence in the Greek beer market.

According to the announcement, Carlsberg will acquire 51% of the Greek brewing company, which has established itself as the third dominant party in the Greek beer market largely due to its Fix brand.

The Carlsberg Group already owns the “Mythos” brand and is working toward developing its operations in Greece. The “new” Olympic Brewery will produce an estimated 2.2 million hectoliters of beer annually. Lars Lehman will be the brewery’s chairman, while Alexandros Karafyllidis will be appointed chief executive.
