A pan-educational demonstration has been arranged to take place on Thursday, which is scheduled to begin at noon outside the Propylaea building in the city center of Athens.

The demonstration is in response to the government’s “new school” bill, which includes controversial changes to the exams process, along with the merging of schools and departments, as well as a shift in education policies.

On Monday students began taking action by occupying schools and organizing protests all over Greece. The Ministry of Education estimated that about 500 schools were occupied by students on Monday, with the div dropping to 364 schools on Tuesday.

In response to the huge number of school occupations, Supreme Court prosecutor Efterpi Koutzamani has ordered local prosecutors to investigate school occupations within their jurisdiction. The Education Minister Andreas Loverdos denies having requested the judicial initiative.
