The Prime Minister Antonis Samaras will be in Milan on Thursday where he is scheduled to attend the EU-Asia Summit. Mr. Samaras has also arranged to meet his Chinese counterpart Mr. Li Keqiang in the sidelines of the Summit.

The two Prime Ministers will like discuss the financial relations of the two countries, along with the involvement of COSCO in Piraeus and the Chinese plans regarding the railway and Greek privatizations. Mr. Samaras is also expected to meet with other EU and Asian leaders.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Francois Hollande and Russian President Vladimir Putin are also set to attend. The EU-Asia Summit takes place every two years, however this year it is especially important on account of the crises in Ukraine and the Middle East.

The overall relationship between Russia and China is going to be the main point of discussion, with an emphasis on further developing financial ties and cooperation in security and stability in sensitive areas. Mrs. Merkel and Mr. Putin will be able to discuss the Ukrainian crisis and repercussions on EU/German and Russian relations, which have been affected by the sanctions and counter-sanctions.

Mr. Samaras’ participation in the Summit is important, considering the suspicion and reservations towards the Greek economy. As he explained in Wednesday’s ministerial council, the Prime Minister blames SYRIZA for causing political instability.
