The 31-year-old man who was arrested by the Police on Thursday outside a garage in Vyronas has been identified by the Police as Antonis Stampoulos and is believed to be a member of the Nikos Maziotis-led Revolutionary Struggle group.

Stampoulos has so far refused to cooperate with the police after his arrest, nor did he respond to the charges against him when taken for questioning before a judge on Sunday. The 31-year-old’s legal attorney called the questioning a “circus”, noting discrepancies with the evidence submitted to the judge and argued that there were serious legal violations and the defendant’s presumption of innocence principle.

The lawyer stressed that evidence was circulated in the media prior to being given to Stampoulos’ legal defense and pointed out that the 31-year-old has not been associated with specific actions attributed to him. Stampoulos, who later issued a statement on the Greek portal of Indymedia, told the examiner he would not testify until he is aware of all evidence in the case file against him.
