Supreme Court Prosecutor Efterpi Koutzamani has ordered a preliminary investigation into allegations of unlawful contract changes in five municipalities, based on a file submitted by the Minister of Administrative Reform Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

According to the Ministry, there are discrepancies in the municipalities of Patra, Larissa, Chalandri, Nikea and Renti, where fixed-term employees had their contracts changed to indefinite contracts with municipal authorities.

The Ministry’s intention to investigation such allegations has prompted a heated argument with the recently-elected Regional Governor of Attica Rena Dourou and prompted reactions from public sector employees.

The Mayor of Patra Kostas Peletidis commented that he will not comply to the implementation of an anti-people law enforced by the coalition government, as part of its agreement with the EU. Mr. Peletidis added that these “so-called inspections” are designed to generate dismissals and deregulate employment.
