The Municipality of Athens has increased its efforts to tackle pollution and is now providing free compost bins which aim to manage biodegradable waste at its source and support recycling.

The 310-liter bins are suitable for turning organic waste, such as vegetable and fruit peelings, houseplants, weeds, cut grass, leaves etc, into compost, which can then be used in lieu of fertilizer. The compost bins must be placed in a garden with access to sunlight in the morning or afternoon.

Residents in Athens can contact the Municipality’s services online, where they will find a form that needs to be submitted by the 30th of September and emailed at gr.anakyklwsis@cityofathens.gr & ath.anakyklwsi@cityofathens.gr. This bins will be delivered by municipal employees.
