The former heads of the Financial and Economic Crime Unit (SDOE) Yannis Diotis and Yannis Kapeleris are to face corruption examiners Christos Papakostas and Dimitris Kavalaris regarding the infamous “Lagarde List” scandal.

According to the case file, Mr. Diotis received from the Minister of Finances at the time Giorgos Papakonstantinou a copy of the USB drive containing the original list, which he appears to have tampered. Mr. Papakonstantinou gave Mr. Kapeleris a list with 20 names from the list, who appear to have the largest accounts. Despite being instructed to investigate them, the inspection was not carried out.

Mr. Diotis claims that he copied the electronic list, but that he had also requested that experts determine who tampered with the illustrious USB drive. Mr. Kapeleris on his behalf has argued that his political supervisor, namely Finance Minister Papakonstantinou, never instructed him to investigate the Lagarde List.

The Deputy Prosecutor of the Supreme Court Vasilis Pliotas has recommended that the former Finance Minister be prosecuted for two felonies and a misdemeanor and has requested his cousin, Eleni Papakonstantinou, her husband Symeon Sikiaridis and Andreas Rossonis be prosecuted for participating in the alleged crimes.
