Despite having a very promising start in the 2014 FIBA World Cup and having completed the Group stage of the competition without any loses, Greece was unable to continue on the same pace and met defeat from Serbia in the Round of 16.

Unlike the previous games in the competition Greece’s defensive line suffered in particular, allowing the Serbian team to put the pressure on Fotis Katsikaris’ team. While the Greek team managed to stay close to the score in the first half of the game, Serbian had set its own pace and steadily built a twenty-point lead.

For Greece Nick Calathes, Giorgos Printezis and team captain Nikos Zisis stood out, but that was not enough to turn the tides of the game. Serbia will now play against the winner of the Brazil v Argentina match in the quarter finals.
