Despite being considered a “quiet” summer month due to the vacations, the Attica Traffic Directorate has publicized its divs regarding road incidents in August, according to which there were 411 incidents with 538 victims.

According to the data, 21 of these incidents resulted in 21 deaths, 17 incidents resulted in 21 seriously injured, while the remaining 373 incidents resulted in 496 people suffering light injuries.

Additionally, a total of 26,224 traffic violations were documented in August, of which 468 violations were misdemeanor offenses. Specifically:

  • 745 violations for driving under the influence of alcohol – 81 of which amounted to misdemeanor offenses
  • 1,596 violations for exceeding the speed limit
  • 429 violations for ignoring traffic lights
  • 843 violations for using a mobile phone while driving
  • 486 violations for not wearing a seat belt and
  • 1,360 violations for not wearing a helmet.
