The Ministry of Labor announced that is has imposed 33.6 million euros worth of fines for cases of undeclared employment between the 15th of September 2013 and the 31st of July 2014.

According to the Ministry’s data, a total of 20,179 businesses were inspected during that ten-month period as part of the Ministry’s “Artemis” operation. The Ministry’s inspectors found that amongst the 119,122 employees, employers had not declared 3,254 (2.73%), resulting in the 33,613,725 euro fine.

The inspections were carried out by IKA’s insurance inspection service EYPEA, along with SEPE inspectors and the Financial Police. The fines are imposed amount to 18 times the minimum wage, namely 10,550 euros for each undeclared employee. The Labor Minister Yannis Vroutsis praised the combined efforts of the various inspection bodies for delivering the results.
