The police is investigating an explosion that took place at 23:30 on Wednesday evening in the Medieval old town of Rhodes. The explosion has not caused any injuries.

According to the police report, the explosion occurred near the Marine Gate in the old town, which leads to the harbor. Police promptly arrived on the scene and found remnants of an explosive device that had been place about 15 meters high on the gate’s left pillar.

The police have launched an investigation and commented that due to the placement of the device and restricted access, it appears that the culprit must be familiar with the area.

No motives have yet been discerned, although local residents claim that the intent of the explosion may have been to cause a commotion to harm the island’s tourism.
