Italian professor Salvatore Lo Sicco who lives and works in the UK went on 35-day bicycle ride from London to Athens in order to raise awareness over the Greek demands regarding the Parthenon Marbles.
Lo Sicco’s “London to Athens Bike Tour 2014” was supported by the British Committee for the Reunification of the Parthenon Marbles, which has campaigned for the return of the artifacts exhibited in the British Museum.
The Italian professor was greeted by the Deputy Minister of Culture Angela Gerekou upon his arrival in Athens. Mrs. Gerekou praised Lo Sicco for his initiative and sated that the Parthenon Marbles demand is not a “Greek” request, but an international one. Mr. Lo Sicco expressed his belief that “the return of the Parthenon Marbles is a moral and historic obligation”.
